Are you wondering what the best study desk essentials are?

Statistics show that having an organized desk improves productivity by 84%! That’s almost double the amount of work you can complete in the same time period – why not take advantage of this simple productivity trick?

Having an organized and welcoming desk will make studying and working more bearable. It makes sense: make your desk look and feel appealing, and you’ll enjoy sitting (or standing, if you own a standing desk) there for longer!

I’ve changed my own desk setup many times, but some elements have stayed constant. In this post, I’m going to reveal the 15 essentials I always keep at my desk. Hopefully, they’ll help you become more comfortable and productive at your desk, too!

Display Monitor

If you’re tired of straining your eyes to look at a laptop screen, a display monitor might be the perfect investment for you. Just connect your laptop to the monitor, usually through an HDMI cable, and you’ll have a larger secondary screen to use.

Note the difference between a PC or desktop computer and a display monitor. PCs and desktop computers are large and are independent of your laptop. Display monitors don’t function on their own, and they must be connected to your laptop– it simply acts as an extension of your laptop screen.

Having a display monitor helps me multitask online, and it relieves a lot of eye and neck strain due to its size and height. I have the Samsung 390 Series 24” curved monitor, and I do recommend it, but you can find many different sizes and models online.

Laptop Stand

If you’re not ready to invest in a display monitor yet, but you still want to relieve some neck and back strain that appears as you bend over the laptop, a laptop stand would be a great alternative (I actually own both!).

A laptop stand elevates your screen to eye level so that you can straighten your back while working at your desk. This ensures better posture and a healthier body in the long run.

There are many different laptop stands on Amazon, and I own this one. It’s incredibly sturdy and has great ventilation. However, due to its shape, it’s not portable. If you’d prefer something smaller, I recommend this foldable laptop stand.

Keyboard + Mouse

One inconvenience of laptop stands is that once your computer is elevated, it’s very difficult to type comfortably on the laptop’s attached keyboard. For this reason, I suggest investing in a Bluetooth keyboard (and mouse) as well.

The Logitech K380 keyboard + Pebble mouse pair are one of the most popular duos for students due to their size and versatility. The keyboard is a comfortable size with circular keys, and the mouse has very soft clicks, perfect for working in quiet places.

One disadvantage of this keyboard is that, if you’re an Apple MacBook user, it may take some time to get used to the layout of the Logitech keyboard (the function, control, option, and command keys are in different places).

If this is a dealbreaker for you, consider the Apple Magic Keyboard, which is more expensive, but pairs perfectly with the MacBook.

Adjustable Lamp

Good lighting is integral to your desk setup. Having a bright setting will make reading and writing a lot easier, protecting your eyes from straining too much.

I own an adjustable lamp, similar to this one on Amazon. I can move it easily, changing the angle and height of the lamp to shine in different places. I can also adjust the brightness and warmth of the light, which is helpful because I study at different times of the day; a dim, warm light is great for late-night studying, while a bright, cool light works better for the day.

To choose the perfect lamp for you, determine how much space you have on your desk or in your room. If you don’t have much space, a clamp-on lamp would be better than a desk lamp. Also, make sure to check if it allows for multiple brightness and temperature settings!

Digital Clock

It’s very convenient to have a visible digital clock near you while studying to keep track of time. This can help you know when to keep studying, when to take a break, when you should log in for a meeting, etc.

While you can also use your phone or computer to check the time, I find that neither is as effective as a digital clock. First, I like to keep my phone away while studying and working. In addition, the clock on my laptop is very small, and when my tabs are on full screen, it’s not visible at all. Having a digital clock available at first glance solves these problems.

You may have seen this LED digital clock on TikTok – it works fine, and I think it’s a very nice addition to your space. But if you’re not hanging it up on the wall, this clock will take up quite some space on your desk.

I own a much smaller clock – the IKEA Klockis. This is a battery-powered, multifunctional clock/thermometer/alarm/timer. Simply flip the clock over to one side, and the function will change. I use this not only to check the time, but also to set a Pomodoro timer for myself while studying.

Desk Organizer

If you feel that your desk is too cluttered, a desk organizer can help you maximize your space and keep it clean. Often, we end up with extra items like notepads, paperclips, notebooks, and other miscellaneous things (and we don’t even know where they came from).

If this sounds like your situation, an organizer like this one (the same type as mine) could work great. You’ll be able to put small items on both levels, as well as stack things like pen organizers on the top level. On my Instagram, you can see how I use my desk organizer:

If you have more papers and folders than small, miscellaneous items, a simple paper tray like this could help:

Pen Organizer

If you’re like me, you might have an abundance of pens: pencils, colored pens, highlighters… you name it. To make sure you’re not cluttering your space, and that you will be able to find the correct pen when you need it, use a pen organizer!

If you simply need somewhere to store a handful of pens (and don’t feel the need to separate or categorize them), something like a mason jar or mug would work.

If you have different types of pens (for example, different colors, different pen sizes, and different functions), use a designated pen organizer. I use one like this, and this product comes in a set of 3 organizers and 2 cups– perfect for someone who needs both storage and organization!

Sticky Notes

Sticky notes are one of my favorite places to write down quick reminders. While I prefer to make daily plans and make full to-do lists on my iPad or laptop (Todoist is a super helpful app), I use sticky notes for 1) long-term to-dos and 2) ultra-important reminders.

If I have long-term tasks (like an assignment, project deadline, payment, etc), I write it down on a sticky note and place it on my wall, above my desk. This ensures that every time I sit down at my desk, I am reminded to complete or work on those tasks.

Though a digital plan is helpful, having a to-do list in plain sight is by far the most effective way for me to remember to complete those tasks. So if you tend to forget your to-do’s, try writing them down on a sticky note and placing it somewhere visible!

Earbuds/Headphones

Headphones are essential if you’re studying in a loud environment. If you have roommates or family members who tend to make enough noise to distract you, consider investing in some noise-canceling headphones or earbuds.

I recommend high-quality ones that won’t feel uncomfortable even after wearing them for a long time, such as the Bose QuietComfort 35 (I actually prefer these over the new QuietComfort 45, because they’re more comfortable around the ears) or QuietComfort Earbuds.

Both may be a little outside of a student’s budget, but if you’re seriously considering investing in a pair of headphones, these are some of the best you can get.

Blue Light Glasses

These days, it’s almost impossible to not be on your computer or phone for long hours as a student. To ensure minimal damage to your eyes, get some blue light-blocking glasses!

If you already wear prescription glasses, consider getting blue light-blocking prescription lenses. If you don’t currently wear glasses, you can get any non-prescription pair online. I have these SOJOS Cat Eye glasses, which are super affordable yet chic.

Remember to practice other protective methods as well, such as going outside often to relax your eyes, and massaging them when they feel strained. If your eyes get dry easily, also use eyedrops!

Motivating Decor

I love decorating my desk, and surrounding myself with the right pieces of decor can motivate me to be more productive. If you want to and are able to, brainstorm some ways to decorate your desk!

The easiest way to decorate is to print out pictures and stick them on the wall near your desk. The pictures can be of celebrities you look up to, affirmations you like to repeat, decorative posters with motivating mantras on them, and pictures from your mood board.

There are many, many, pictures online, especially on Pinterest.

Hand Lotion

Especially as the weather changes, our skin gets dry very easily. And since you’re probably using your hands a lot– to write, to type, to do everything– it’s important to keep them moisturized and healthy.

Keep some hand lotion at your desk, and whenever you feel your hands getting dry, generously lather some lotion on! You can also implement this as part of your routine– before starting homework, put on some lotion.

Plants

Plants are a great way to liven up your workspace. Having some greenery in a serious environment can make it look more “alive,” making you feel less trapped if you’re confined to your desk for long hours.

Additionally, if you have real plants, they can help circulate the air around your desk (as plants do)! But if you don’t have the time and effort to dedicate to taking care of real plants – I understand, me too – fake plants work perfectly.

You can get potted plants to put on your desk, above your desk on shelves (maybe on hanging shelves?), or hanging vines. You can even get flowers to stick in a small vase!

Snacks

I’ve mentioned in a previous post how you, in general, shouldn’t keep snacks at your desk. I still stand by that statement– chips, crumbly cookies, sticky foods, and anything that will cause a mess should stay away from your desk.

However, some snacks are totally okay. For me, they are motivators (a “reward” when I finish a task), and, well, a snack for when I’m getting hungry while studying. Here are some snacks I sometimes have with me at my desk:

  • Grapes
  • Cut fruit
  • Small packs of gummies
  • Cheese
  • Popcorn

Remember to not oversnack – you shouldn’t be having full meals at your desk!

Water Bottle

Last but not least, remember to stay hydrated! Keep a water bottle at your desk so you always drink enough water, even while you’re focused on an assignment.

If you feel that a cup isn’t enough for your study session, and you’d like to stay at your desk the entire time, keep a large water bottle with you. However, a cup also has its advantages – it forces you to take a break from your screen and walk to fill the cup again. So, the choice is yours!

BONUS: Ultimate Student Planner

I created the Ultimate Student Planner for students like myself. It’s the perfect way to stay organized as a student!

Conclusion

And there you have it, the 15 desk essentials you need in your workspace. I own some variations of all of these products mentioned, and I highly recommend every single one of them.

These are the best desk essentials for students guaranteed to make you more productive.

Have you noticed how some people just seem to thrive in school? They understand every concept that’s taught, never miss an assignment, and are– all-in-all– great students.

The truth is, no one is born a perfect student. Instead, they learn certain skills and habits to help them study more effectively. By building these skills, they are working smarter and not harder.

In this post, I’ll teach you 9 essential study skills every student should know. If you’d like to become a better student today, then keep reading!

9 essential study skills to work smarter, not harder

Notion Template for Students

Before we get started… want to get your life organized as a student?

Check out my Ultimate Student Planner Notion Template!

This easy-to-use Notion template will save your life as a student.

1. Use the right study supplies

Now onto the study skills!

First things first, the foundations: your study supplies. It’s important to have the supplies you need in order to maximize your study efficiency.

Every student has their own set of supplies that help maximize success. Here are some of mine, as well as a few that will help you implement the best practices I’ll be teaching you in this post:

  • Academic planner: As you’ll read about soon, planning ahead is a skill every student must build! Use a planner to keep track of important dates and progress tasks.
  • Index cards/flashcards: Flashcards can make memorization much easier! Use flashcards to practice memorizing terms and concepts.
  • Pilot G2 black pens: High-quality pens will come in handy when writing anything, and the Pilot G2 pens are super trustworthy!
  • Mildliner highlighters: Use colored highlighters to color code anything you want and emphasize important concepts and words in your notes.
Study Affirmations

2. Prioritizing assignments

Knowing how to prioritize is an essential skill, and not just for students. Whenever you face a to-do list, you should immediately know which tasks should be the top priority, and which ones can wait.

If you tend to struggle with this type of decision-making, try using the Eisenhower Matrix to organize your tasks. It looks like this:

Use the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize your assignments.

In each of the quadrants, you can categorize tasks based on their importance and urgency. This will help you sort out which tasks to do first, which to do later, which to delegate to others, and which to not do at all.

Some students may have no trouble prioritizing, they just struggle to actually get started. If you tend to procrastinate on your to-do list, you may find this guide helpful:

3. Working under pressure

I’m sure that sometime in your life, you’ll have to take a formal assessment. In fact, it’s very likely that you’ll have to take many of them! If you haven’t yet mastered the skill of working effectively under pressure, it’s time to start practicing.

A testing environment is different from your casual classroom; it is tenser and can put a lot of invisible pressure on the students in the room. Because of this extra stress, students can find themselves losing concentration easily, struggling to recall information, and developing sudden physical symptoms of anxiety.

It’s never fun to experience these problems, especially if you’re trying to do well on a test. Therefore, you must practice working under pressure.

At home, take mock exams in a test-like environment. This means that you should:

  • Be in a silent or quiet room with no music, family members, friends…
  • Have no distractions like your phone and games
  • Use no outside resources like your notes and the textbook
  • Time yourself with a stopwatch or timer
Study Motivation Quotes

4. Effective reading

You may or may not be familiar with reading textbooks. Often, especially as you graduate high school and step into college, you’ll have to rely almost completely on reading textbooks to learn.

In this case, you’ll want to practice effective reading skills. It’s extremely common for students to read an entire chapter but end up not understanding or remembering anything. This is not effective and is a terrible habit that must be broken.

Instead, try the following:

  1. Don’t just dive into the section you have to read. Preview the contents, such as headings, highlighted concepts, and important vocabulary.
  2. Take notes while reading, but only on the relevant information that you didn’t already know. Include diagrams and draw connections!
  3. Review your notes around 8 hours after you finish reading the section.
  4. Discuss what you’ve read with a friend and resolve any potential confusion.

5. Reviewing knowledge

Just like I mentioned in the above tip, reviewing what you’ve learned is important; it may help you clear any questions you had, form new connections, and understand concepts in ways you hadn’t realized before.

An effective reviewing method is to review:

  • 8 hours after first learning the information.
  • Another 8 hours later (16 hours after learning it).
  • Another 8 hours later (24 hours after learning it).

Having well-organized and informational notes is incredibly helpful while reviewing. You can read through your notes, remake the connections you made earlier, and practice applying the concepts you learned to realistic scenarios or relevant questions.

write perfect essays

6. Memorization & application

Speaking of applying concepts, knowing when and how to memorize information and when to practice applying them is another essential study skill. Some subjects require a lot of memorization, others focus on applying what you already know in new ways, and many are a combination.

Here are some examples:

  • In math, you need to memorize formulas and apply them to problems.
  • In languages, you need to memorize grammar and conjugation rules and apply them when writing, speaking, etc.
  • In science, you need to memorize laws and formulas and apply them to scenarios.
  • There are many more examples, but you get the point!

Therefore, practice memorizing information (try flashcards and interactive apps like Quizlet), then do a lot of practice problems where you have to apply the information you learned!

For many subjects, you can find practice problems in your textbook. You can also find videos on YouTube that guide you through a certain topic and a few practice questions.

7. Set & follow routines

An essential study skill that will help you complete your to-do list more effectively is to built and follow routines. Many students have morning and evening routines, but not necessarily a study routine.

A study routine is just like any other routine; you make a set schedule to study all the subjects you need to and follow it regularly. Schedule blocks of time during which you study one specific subject and repeat for every task you must complete.

A helpful way to follow this routine every day without feeling forced is to implement it into your daily routine. Every day at around the same time, sit down and begin your study routine. This will ensure that you not only make time to study every day but that you make enough time to do so!

If you’d like some extra help maintaining your study routine, feel free to download my free study session planner (and many other printables) from my Freebie Library!

8. Collaborating with others

Each student has different preferences for studying environments; some like to study alone in a quiet room, while others like to be with a group in a public library or café.

If you’ve been studying alone in your student career, why not try joining a group study session and see how it works for you? Collaboration, especially with students who are studying the same thing as you, can be incredibly helpful.

Your friends can help you stay focused and productive, answer questions you may have had, and introduce new ideas and perspectives that help expand your understanding of a concept.

If you’re currently an online student and attend virtual classes, you can still hold virtual study calls! Simply make a group chat and FaceTime, or use apps like Zoom, Discord, and Houseparty to do the same.

study for ap classes

9. Planning ahead

Last but not least, every student should build the essential skill of planning ahead. At the beginning of every school year, every semester, and even every new unit for a class, take out your planner and get planning.

Take note of test dates, project due dates, and other important days for each class. Feel free to customize your planner however you’d like to maximize its effectiveness for you, such as color-coding each class and using certain symbols.

In addition to marking down important dates, you should also make progress tasks! This means setting short-term goals and to-dos that you will practice regularly leading up to that test date.

This method of planning ahead – noting tests in the future and paving a path of studying leading up to that date – is highly effective in helping you prepare fully and not cram. Try it out!

beat test stress and anxiety easily

Conclusion

I hope you learned something new from this post and can start implementing these study skills immediately! With consistent practice, you’ll be on your way to becoming a better student!

Notion is an all-in-one digital organizing tool that has become very popular with students, and in this post, I’ll show you my Notion setup and how I use it to organize my life.

This post is the last post in a series of 3, and if you’re not quite familiar with Notion yet, you can check out the first two:

  1. How To Set Up Notion For Students
  2. How To Organize Your Student Life With Notion

If you’re already familiar with how Notion works and its potential, and you are just looking for some inspiration for how to set it up, this post is for you.

Make sure to read until the end, where I provide you with a free Notion template (an exact copy of what my Notion looks like!)

If you’re interested in a more comprehensive Notion template, check out my Ultimate Student Planner Notion Template (2024 Template included!)

Otherwise, let’s jump into my Notion setup and how I use it to organize my life!

My full Notion setup as an online student + free template!

Home Page

The Home page is what you should see every time you open Notion. It should give you easy access to the links or pages you need to reference often, such as your Personal and Academics pages.

In addition, you could add various embeds and additional resources to this page that may help you with planning. Here’s what my Home page (from the template I made for you) looks like:

Notion homepage to organize your life
All photos used are from Pinterest!

As you can see, I’ve linked to my 3 main pages– Personal, School, and Growth– near the top of the page, put other links on the side, and included a calendar embed (“/calendar”) on the bottom of the page. Now, I’ll go over each of the links in the sidebar.

Note: I’ve updated the template periodically, so the one you download may look a little different from the pictures in this post!

Main Project

This page tracks my long-term goals, their progress goals, and their action tasks that I will implement into my daily or weekly routine.

How I set goals with Notion
page setup inspired by twirlingpages on YouTube

Simply identify 3 long-term goals, make 3 progress goals (time-based or achievement-based), and list 3 small, actionable steps for each of those progress goals.

Lastly, think of a reward you’d give yourself if you successfully achieve these goals by a certain date.

Expense Tracker

My expense tracker is a super simple table:

My expense tracker in Notion

I have a tag for each month, which helps me organize my expenses and earnings when I filter the table. I only display items for the current month, which I achieve by selecting Filter and adding a filter for Where [month] is [current month].

An important thing to remember is that when adding your expenses, don’t forget to add a negative/subtract symbol in front of the number! If you don’t do this, the table will count this number as an earning and not an expense.

Wishlist

My wishlist is another table:

My wishlist in Notion

You can customize the tags for the items of your list and label them however you want. Having a wishlist like this can help you determine which items you really need, and which is just a momentary impulse.

Bookshelf

That’s right, another table:

Use Notion to organize your books!

There are many ways to customize your bookshelf, and I’ve seen YouTubers include book covers to make them into cards you can organize on a board. I decided to stick with something simpler, which is how I came up with this table.

What To Watch

Lastly, this table to organize movies and shows you want to watch:

Use Notion to organize the movies and shows you want to watch

Just like all the other databases in this template, you can customize this however you’d like to include more or less information like links, images, reviews, etc.

Personal Page

Next up is the personal page, which is the page I use to write daily to-do lists and check-in on my monthly goals and habits. This page is relatively simple, but let’s go over the functions of each block.

Use Notion to write to-do lists and be productive

Monthly Focus

In this area, list a few monthly goals you’ve set. If you have some long-term goals (yearly, quarterly, etc), you can derive your monthly focus from them. Make these reasonably challenging, but still reachable; they should help you reach your long-term goals.

Daily Habits

Here, I’ve created a simple table that will help you track habits you’re trying to build or break. List each habit in the left-most column, and as each day passes, check the checkbox under that day if you completed the habit, and leave it if you didn’t.

Daily To-Dos

Lastly, everyone needs a daily to-do list to keep track of their tasks for the day. For this area, you have a block of space for each day, and all you have to do is click + new task to add an item to your to-do list.

School Page

In my opinion, the school page is the most complex page in this template. Though it looks simple, it has many functions embedded in each area.

Organize your school life with Notion

Let’s begin with your class schedule.

Classes

Begin by adding all your classes to this table. You can add or remove columns and customize the table however you’d like to match your needs. Once your schedule is saved, you can go deeper into each individual class.

Hover over a class and select OPEN, and this class will open as a page.

Organize all your classes easily in Notion!

Here, you can add more information about each class, such as copies of the syllabus, Zoom links for your synchronous, online lessons, and even your lecture notes. You can take notes directly in Notion, and it functions just like other document programs like Google Docs.

Vocabulary

Next, as we navigate back to the school page, you can see 2 links on the left under Guide. These are two basic pages I find very useful, and you can add or remove any pages you want.

The vocabulary page is very straightforward; as you’re reading and come across an unfamiliar word, jot it down in this table so you can study it later and expand your vocabulary.

Learn new vocabulary with the help of Notion

Academic Plan

Lastly, a planning page for your academic future. This is especially useful for high school students, as I’ve created places to track your dream universities, possible scholarships, etc.

Plan for your academic future with Notion

You can start brainstorming what’s going to go in your college applications (most notably, the Common App) here, and make plans according to what you have so far and what you’re lacking.

Growth Page

The last main page in this template is the page for personal growth and goal-setting. Here is a palace to store your long-term goals and remind yourself of why you’re doing certain things.

Set goals and work towards them effectively with Notion's help
image in Notion from Weibo

Goal Board

You can create a board like this by typing /board and selecting Board – Inline. Create 3 columns, labeling them not achieved, in progress, and achieved. Then, just add “cards” to each column!

As you progress in a goal or reach it, you can move the card around to the right column. You can also add detailed steps or helpful resources to each goal simply by opening each card.

Affirmations

Other than your personal goals, you can also list various affirmations, inspirational quotes, things that make you happy, self-care activities…

This page should be there for you to reference whenever you need some motivation or inspiration, so fill it with things that make you love and will make you a better person!

While some may say that online school has been a blessing in disguise (which is true, in some aspects), others may be struggling. For many students, staying sane and healthy during online classes is a challenge.

I know I had trouble with almost every part of my daily student life– organizing homework, exercising regularly, staying mentally healthy… you name it. Luckily, I didn’t have to do this alone. And you don’t, either!

Amazon is your friend. There are over 12 million products on Amazon, and these 21 just happen to be perfect for students. Ready to make online school a breeze? Let’s get started!

21 life-changing Amazon products for online students!

Laptop stand

After sitting in front of your desk for a while, you might suddenly realize that you’re sitting like a shrimp. Your back is screaming at you to sit up straight, and your neck cracks at least 4 times when you look up.

A laptop stand will hold your laptop at eye-level, which means no more terrible posture and no more back or neck pain! Especially as online classes become the norm, a laptop stand should be on every student’s desk.

Bluetooth keyboard

As beneficial and necessary as laptop stands are, there is one disadvantage– your hands have to move up along with the laptop. If you’re content with typing with your hands not on the desk, then you’re good to go.

However, if you’re more comfortable with typing on solid “ground,” a Bluetooth keyboard is a must-have. A good keyboard should be easily compatible with any device, comfortable to use, and perfectly responsive. Check out this student favorite!

Desk lamp

I’ve mentioned desk lamps before in my other post, How To Effectively Study For Any Test, and I’m mentioning it again. A good desk lamp will save you so much eye strain, headaches, and frustration.

Being able to study in a comfortable space is key to being successful, and good lighting plays a huge part in that. Invest in a high-quality lamp now to avoid pain and suffering in the future (trust me, I know how it feels to study under terrible lighting).

Blue light glasses

Blue-light glasses are another old friend of mine on this blog. And if you don’t have blue-light blocking glasses yet, you’re promising yourself a lot of unnecessary eye strain and migraines.

If you didn’t know, electronic devices give off a significant amount of blue light. If it is not blocked, blue light can lead to headaches, insomnia, and even vision loss (though very rare). Luckily, it’s easy to prevent that. Simply put on a pair of blue-light glasses!

Alarm clock

Teachers during online school will have the full expectation that you will be on time for every class, every day. Whether that’s reasonable or not, you should try your best to do so! Plus, it’s a sheer courtesy you’re showing by showing up to class and participating.

A dependable alarm clock will be incredibly helpful in this case. An intelligent one is even better, so it can help you go to sleep or wake up naturally and/or how you want to.

Student planner

As much as I love reading inspirational quotes, they really don’t help me organize my life any better. Eventually, I grew tired of buying useless planners that I don’t even use and made my own.

The Ultimate 3-in-1 Planner is one made just for students. It includes pages to help with planning, goal-setting (short-term and long-term), habit-building, studying, organizing, and so much more. The best part? It’s only $12.

Of course, there are many available planners on Amazon as well. Simply give it a quick search!

Dry erase board

Sometimes, life goes a little too quickly to jot everything down in a planner. For example, you might have a sudden burst of inspiration but are not sure if it’s the best idea yet. In this case, why not write it down on a dry erase board?

A dry erase board is perfect for writing down quick notes and reminders for yourself to reference at a glance. And if you get a magnetic one, you can stick some papers and notes on there, too!

Bed desk

Though an organized desk is a much better choice when it comes to being productive, your bed can look pretty irresistible at times. So since we both know it’s going to happen anyway, why not make yourself comfortable?

A bed desk will keep your computer on a flat, solid surface as opposed to your lap, which is healthier (and probably more comfortable) for both you and your laptop.

Wireless printer

Before classes moved online, I relied almost completely on my school’s library and public printers. It quickly got inconvenient when I had to stay home. I realized that if I didn’t buy a printer quickly, my grade would get affected.

If you’re like me and have professors or teachers who love assigning worksheets, you need to invest in a high-quality, long-lasting printer. The HP OfficeJet series are very reliable and have some generous benefits (such as free ink delivery for the first 2 months).

Reusable water bottle

It’s easy to become dehydrated without even realizing it – especially when you’re sitting in the same place for half the day. A water bottle next to your desk is a great reminder for yourself to take a sip every so often.

And rather than relying on plastic bottles of water, go for the eco-friendly reusable option. Plus, some water bottles will even have lines on them showing you how much water you should’ve drunk already. How convenient!

Humidifier

Along with consuming enough water, keeping your environment at a healthy moisture level (is that a thing?) is essential for hydration. If your room/home is too dry, you could end up with tired eyes, dry skin, and a bloody nose (I know from experience).

I’m not really into fancy devices, so I really love this simple and minimalistic essential oil diffuser/humidifier. All you have to do is fill it with water, put in a few drops of essential oil if you want, and click a button. I can’t live without it!

Yoga mat

As much as you may dislike hearing it, I’m going to say it anyway. Exercise is necessary. However, you don’t need to go out running at 5 am everyday to stay healthy. Many students resort to yoga and pilates, which are low-impact exercises.

But of course, yoga isn’t very comfortable on hardwood or carpeted floors. A high-quality yoga mat will prevent injuries and fully maximize the potential and effects of yoga.

16 ft charging cord

I absolutely despise reaching for my charging cord and just falling short. That’s why I invested in a mega-long charging cord. It’s about 16 ft (5 meters) long, which sounds crazy, but is absolutely a lifesaver for someone like me.

I have an iPhone, so the product below is an iPhone charging cord. However, I’m sure there is a similar product out there for Androids! Search around, because once again, Amazon is your friend.

Bluetooth speaker

Whenever I have time, I love listening to music and dancing along. It’s an amazing way for me to relieve stress quickly and effectively, and I couldn’t fully enjoy it without my Bluetooth speaker.

Now, I know it’s tempting to grab a cheap speaker from the local department store and call it a day (I did this once). But you will not regret investing in a high-quality speaker from companies like Bose.

I have 2 Bose speakers – the Bose SoundLink Revolve and the Bose SoundLink Micro. I highly suggest the Micro for students, because it’s cheaper, smaller, and sounds just as nice as the other.

Bath salts

I love taking baths (although I’ve been too busy to take one recently). It’s a great way for me to relax after a long day and catch up on everything. But not only is bath-taking a great way to relax your mind, it has health benefits, too!

Bath salts are a great way to take care of your physical body while relaxing your mind, because they can:

  • Moisturize skin
  • Soothe pain
  • Relax muscles
  • Decrease inflammation
  • And more!

LED strip lights

I may or may not be influenced by TikTok culture, but LED strip lights are a super fun and easy way to spice up your bedroom. They can change colors and controllable by remote, so it’s super easy to customize your bedroom’s vibes with these lights.

Plus, they’re very affordable! This full set of lights is very popular on Amazon, and has a super nice price tag.

Wall outlet shelf

Sometimes, you just need a couple of extra outlets and somewhere to put your device while charging it. This is where wall outlet shelves come in. They don’t damage the actual outlet at all and can solve all the problems I mentioned above.

Whether you’re charging a speaker, Amazon Echo Dot, iPad, or smartphone, a wall outlet shelf will be able to hold it securely and also provide extra outlets for other devices. Super convenient for students with too many things to charge and too little space.

Wall shelf

A wall shelf is exactly what it sounds like. A shelf on the wall. These are the perfect way to store some small or decorative objects that don’t seem to belong anywhere.

For students, wall shelves are great for books, plants, glasses, and clocks. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but it’s also incredibly easy to grab them when you need them!

Artificial plants

Nothing wrong with a little greenery in your home, right? If you find real plants too difficult to take care of, artificial plants are the choice for you. They look just as beautiful as real plants, but are much easier to maintain and transport.

This set of tabletop potted plants is great for students. They’re relatively small, so they’ll fit perfectly on your desk. And the glass pots are definitely a plus!

Real plants

If you have a green thumb, then real plants are a great choice for you! Especially if taking care of plants is a relaxing and enjoyable task for you to do, plants are a must-have for you.

Succulents are a popular choice, because they’re very low-maintenance and super cute. They’re also relatively small, so they’re a perfect addition to your desk as well! Another place to put them could be your bedside table, windowsill, or the wall shelf!

Handheld milk frothers

As a student, caffeine is a huge part of my daily life. I’m not an early bird by any means, so coffee is part of my diet in the mornings (and sometimes during the day). But of course, there’s nothing wrong with making my coffee a little fancier, right?

A handheld milk frother will make it super easy to create your own foamy cup of latte. Or, if you’re not a coffee person, you can use it to whip your hot chocolate or matcha!

Conclusion

I hope you found something helpful from this list! Perhaps a certain product is just calling your name and waiting for you. Comment below which one it is for you!
